Magnet attracts IBM and Cirpack technology

IRISH BROADBAND, TV and telephony provider Magnet Networks has signed a deal with IBM and Cirpack to deploy for the provision and installation of its fibre-based voice-switching technology infrastructure .Magnet Networks specialises in Fibre- to-the-home (FTTH) provision in which a range of communications and entertainment services can be delivered to consumers and businesses via a high-capacity optical fibre cable. Magnet is currently rolling out fibre to a new residential housing estate under construction in North Dublin.

As part of its deal with IBM, the company is to deploy Cirpack's MultiNode, a carrier- class Softswitch and PSTN gateway based on IBM's eServer xSeries as the primary switching integrator for its recently launched telecommunication network. Included in the deal is the eServer xSeries running the Cirpack Class-5 SoftSwitch application, Cirpack Media/Signalling Gateways, project management, planning, installation, and maintenance services which will be delivered through IBM Integrated Technology Services (ITS) over a three year contract.

The Cirpack MultiNode will be used to ensure that the company can optimise its voice capacity, enabling it to expand its networks capabilities and offer Voice Over digital technology. Magnet Networks will also incorporate the technology into then- highly advanced offering in the broadband and digital sector.

Ingvar Gardarsson, CEO of Magnet Networks, said: 'I know the Cirpack solution well. I've used it before and so I know what it can do. In the past I developed features for the product and I know that I will be able to influence the development of it going forward'.
